Poorest of the Poor

The country now ranked as the poorest in the world for 2023 is South Sudan where people live in desperate poverty and where a poorly educated workforce limits their capacity.

Addressing this tremendous need is the Padoc Area Scholars Society.  College education is amazingly inexpensive in South Sudan compared to any other country in the world. Scholarships are provided based on need and merit to students pursuing four-year university degrees and three-year technical college degrees. Scholarships cover tuition, books and transportation costs.  Donors can choose from several levels of sponsorship starting at $36 per month.

Students Awaiting Scholarships

Many students would love to pursue a college education, but need our support to make that happen. You can see photos and descriptions of those waiting here. Sponsors have the opportunity/option to correspond with the sponsored student via email to learn about their life journey and experience the satisfaction of truly impacting their life. An example of a student needing a scholarship is Moses Maring Gur.

College:  University of Juba

Area of Study: Medicine

Length of Scholarship:  4 years

I’m Moses Maring born on 10th October, 1999.  I have three siblings and all dropped out from school because of lack of financial support. My parents are farmers. We were eight in number but four of my siblings and my lovely father passed away during civil war. Therefore, I’m appealing to Pass scholarships to support me financially and I must make sure that their help will not be in vain.

Education is the only tool which can improve the standard of living to my community. I have a great passion for learning in order to make positive impacts to our communities and South Sudan at large.  I wish to provide services such as teaching, training and health services. I want to make sure after completion of my studies that good hospitals are available.  Getting a scholarship will pave a way to achieve my dream.
